SOUTH GATE HS offers general art history, American art history, and Advanced Placement art history. These classes provide an academic path for students to complete their arts requirement for graduation and for university entrance. These courses expose students to the great cultural achievements of human history. Students consider how civilizations use visual art to express religious, ethical, political, and social realities and points of view. They analyze works of art from throughout history, compare them to our own, and make connections with current society and culture. Regular art history students produce works of art that reflect these connections. Advanced Placement students are trained and coached in high-level analytical thinking and writing to successfully pass the Advanced Placement Art History exam.
